Challenge:

Which way to Mecca? When Muslims pray, they all face the same place. Five times a day, they need to find the exact direction of Qibla from anywhere in the world. But how do you accurately do that?

Solution:

Around 2007 apps were introduced on the iPhone, including a compass. A simple modification of the app, combined with another skin – an Islamic prayer rug that I bought in the Kinkerstraat ;) - and a Qibla compass was created. It pointed out the direction of Mecca from wherever you were at any time. I donated the app to the Red Cross-Red Crescent to offer at a low price in the app store. Revenues went directly to the organisation. It was downloaded for over 80 million times in a short period.
